The Benedict Option means creating Christian communities which will:
– intentionally form disciples
– who can withstand the pressures of post-Christian America
– to offer the world a hopeful yet bold prophetic witness

In other words, forming Christians who can interact and influence the world yet not assimilate to the world.

“If we want to survive, we have to return to the roots of our faith, both in thought and in practice. We are going to have to learn habits of the heart forgotten by believers in the West. We are going to have to change our lives, and our approach to life, in radical ways. In short, we are going to have to be the church, without compromise, no matter what it costs.”
The Benedict Option

The Benedict Option entails at least three things:
Formation, Restoration, and Refuge

Formation

The Benedict Option means creating intentional Christian communities geographically centered around Christian businesses, schools, and churches, forming strong disciples and families in a post-Christian culture.

Restoration

The Benedict Option means taking the effort to be part of communities where Christians are restored from our work in the world. We are not escaping the world, but daily (re)forming ourselves among fellow believers so that we can live boldly within the world as Christians.

Refuge

The Benedict Option is a mindset, not a doctrine or a formula. It means dedication to sacrificially provide a refuge for fellow believers in need.
